BOURNEMOUTH Poppies manager Keith Williams was absolutely furious with his players following an abysmal display in a 3-0 reverse against Bemerton Heath Harlequins at Western Way.

The defeat came on the back of a superb 1-0 victory over Lymington and New Milton at Victoria Park last Tuesday, in a game Williams described as "the best performance I've seen since I've been at the club."

The difference in the two games was an almighty chasm, and Williams explained that the only reason for the sudden change was simply an attitude problem.

"That was a shocking performance and I just couldn't believe it," said Williams.

"It's all about mental attitude, as well as ability. You've got to prepare yourself for each game.

"We've got Wimborne Town today, and I won't need to say anything to the players. The game takes care of itself, and everyone will be up for it.

"No disrespect to teams like Downton, Bemerton and Whitchurch for example, but these are the sort of games we've got to win.

"They are our bread and butter matches. If we can't get ourselves up to beat those sort of teams we're going to again finish in the lower half of the league."

The no-nonsense Poppies boss said that the performance had ruined his weekend, and warned his players that he would not be putting up with more of the same. Williams added: "It's a waste of people's efforts behind the scenes. I might as well put a bunch of kids in and still finish about halfway in the table.

"I know we're better than that, and my lads have got to realise that they can't just pick and choose which matches they want to perform in.

"They were far too complacent after the Lymington game and they took it easy. It was like picking two different sides. In terms of performances it was an absolutely massive difference, and for me that's just not good enough."

Poppies found themselves two goals down in a quick five-minute spell shortly before the half-time break.

Williams' side did improve after the interval, but only marginally, with Paul Honeybun coming closest to pulling a goal back when his effort came back off the post.

In the dying minutes of a game Williams will not wish to experience again in a hurry, the hosts wrapped up the three points with a third.
