THE National Society for Epilepsy has revised its complementary therapies leaflet following recent Government guidelines on the use of herbal medicines.
Research has shown that St John's wort could have an adverse effect on people with epilepsy. There is also anecdotal evidence that evening primrose oil can trigger seizures in epileptics.
The society advises people to consult their GP before taking either medicine or coming off St John's wort. Its helpline for further advice or copies of the leaflet is 01494 601 400.
