DORSET under-10 girls were unfortunate as they missed out at the LTA Southern Region County Cup.

After losing 3-1 to a strong Surrey side in their opening tie, the Dorset team of Sophie Ramsbottom, Lydia Whitehouse, Georgina Strickland and Alice Pyrgos bounced back with a vengeance thrashing the Channel Islands 4-0.

That victory set up a tough test against Sussex on the final day,

But with the scores tied at 2-2 after the matches were completed, Sussex clinched victory on the deciding tie-break.

Prize-money for the 2003 Senior County Closed Tournament has been increased this year with the winner of the men's event scooping a top prize of £150.

The ladies' victor is in line for £100 while cash prizes for the other events - men's doubles and men and ladies veterans - are also up for grabs.
