BEAMINSTER will be going all out for maximum points when they entertain Wayfarers in their final game of the Dorset League Division One season tomorrow.

The West Dorset side are still not mathematically safe from the threat of relegation but skipper Ian Hutchings is not unduly worried.

"Theoretically, both we and Wayfarers need four points from the game to keep us safe from relegation," he said.

"Weymouth Seconds have got to get 20 points against Compton House to go above us and I really can't see that happening against the league leaders."

He is, however, disappointed with how the season has gone, leaving Beaminster at the wrong end of the table.

"We started poorly and never got going till too late in the season," he said. "But I still maintain we are one of the better sides in the division, we just haven't done ourselves justice this year. Hopefully, we have learnt from our mistakes."

A larger squad of players should have been a help to Beaminster. Many of the stalwarts are relatively young, with a good few years' experience of playing together.

Hutchings added: "We are a local team with local players and that's quite rare at the level we play at."

With all-rounder Julian Davies unavailable and Phil Hawkins and Stuart Lindsay on holiday, Hutchings has named a 12-man squad for the decisive encounter.

Beaminster: Hutchings, Bugler, K Berrington, Jones, Wyatt, David, Hurford, Hansford, Etherington, Jeanes, Baker, Hillier. Meet ground 12.45pm, start 1.30pm.

n Bridport, who name a large squad, will be without two senior batsmen for their crucial home tie against Cerne Valley tomorrow in the Dorset League Division Three.

Jon Whetlor (work commitments) and Matthew Sherring (holiday) are unavailable

for the last league game of the season which will decide whether Bridport are promoted as champions.

Rivals for the championship are joint leaders Fovant,

who entertain Christchurch, so it will be a close thing.

Although it is still mathematically possible for Bridport not to be promoted, their young side will be gunning for victory.
