BRIDPORT hit the FA Cup trail tomorrow with a preliminary round clash against Street at St Mary's Field (3pm).

And after last week's superb home draw with Screwfix Premier Division leaders and title favourites Bideford, assistant boss Barry Lawley is confident of progressing further in domestic football's premier knockout competition.

"There's no doubt that Bideford are the star side in our league," admitted Lawley, "and no one would be surprised to see them win the title this season. But our boys did brilliantly against them last week and on another day we could have beaten them.

"Teams at our level are always going be hard pushed to compete with the likes of Bideford who have got money behind them, but what we may have lacked in class we more than made up for in sheer hard work and commitment.

"If we play like that tomorrow we'll beat Street - it's as simple as that."

The Somerset visitors might play in a division below the Bees, but Lawley reckons there will be little to choose between the two teams.

"On the whole," he said, "most teams in both the Premier and Division One are fairly evenly matched. I can't say I know too much about Street. They've changed a lot in the past few months what with a new manager who has brought in a lot of new players.

"They'll be strong, we can be sure of that. There's a lot riding on this one for both teams and no one will want to go out of the competition at the first hurdle.

"Players won't need motivating for this one. It's the FA Cup and everyone wants to do well. The money

obviously helps tremendously and gives clubs a great incentive but the pride and honour of playing in the cup should be enough on its own."

Lawley says the Bees are likely to name the same starting line-up as last Saturday while goalkeeper James Fry and veteran Mark Lock are added to the squad to fill the five substitute places.

Bees: Peters, Newland, Parkinson, Evans, Stewart, McAuley, Thoday, Gale, Linney, Leach, Rose, Greeno, Conning, Armstrong, Fry, Lock.

* Bridport Reserves travel to third place Sherborne Town in the Dorset Premier League tomorrow (3pm).
