A 35-YEAR-OLD man died try ing to save a young boy who got into difficulties in the sea at Burton Bradstock near Bridport on Thursday morning. Lyme Regis lifeboat crew picked up the man from the water and tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead later at Dorset county hos pital. The Lyme crew went to the scene just after 11am having been told of a number of swim mers in difficulty near the Freshwater caravan park. As well as the victim they picked up another swimmer who was a West Bay coastguard. The victim was lifted from the lifeboat by a coastguard heli copter and taken to hospital in Dorchester where he was pro nounced dead. The man was believed to be in his mid-30s. The seven-year-old boy is in a crit ical state at Dorset County Hospital after being lifted from the sea by the coastguard helicopter along with another of his would-be res cuers. Shortly afterward the child was winched to safety one female, believed to be the child's mother, was taken to the beach and then to Dorset County Hospital by air ambulance. Three Lyme lifeboatmen request ed police clearance to speed to the beach by car and give coastguards there assistance.
