THE bank holiday was a "pleasant" one this year with the less exotic tem peratures keeping every one cool, calm and col lected over the tradition ally hectic four day peri od. With most of the weekend covered in a light cloud, peo ple were less hot under the collar and although Lyme Regis and Charmouth were busy, there was an easy going feel to the bank holiday over all. Sergeant Steve Westhead said: "There were a lot of people about but because it wasn't too hot, we didn't get the public order problems we sometimes anticipate on a busy weekend." Tourist information in Lyme Regis reported a busy weekend with over 2,500 peo ple making enquiries over the four day period. In the Alexandra Hotel, sixty cream teas were served on Sunday afternoon alone. Employee John Hoskin said the 100 -year-old hotel over looking Lyme Bay was full to capacity for the whole week end, making it probably the second or third busiest week end of the year so far. Over in Charmouth, Carol and Jeff Prosser said their pub The Royal Oak was heav ing in the evenings as people headed off the beach for a cool pint. While at Manor Farm cara van park, people were turn ing up from as far away as Bournemouth looking for somewhere to stay. Owner Robin Loosmore says between three and four hundred camping units at the holiday centre were taken up, with all the cara vans and chalets being fully booked as well.
