LYME Regis town councillors have decided at an "informal meeting" that the only suit able site for a skate park in Lyme Regis costs too much and won't go ahead. The site near the medical centre in Uplyme Road was declared by the district council in June as the only suitable site currently avail able in the town (Lyme Regis News, June 13). But the land, which is around a third of an acre in size and has planning permission for business use, is on the market for in excess of £150,000. Town councillor Daryl Turner told the News that the costs had been circulated and "some coun cillors" had had an informal meet ing to look at them. He said: "It is cost prohibitive. It all depends on what happens at Strawberry Field now." Coun Turner said the council had been through ordnance survey maps trying to find sites for the park. He said he didn't know what would become of the project now, "unless we can find somebody who wants to donate some land." Former chairman of the recre ations and amenities group Coun Ken Whetlor said he hadn't seen any costs for the sight but had thought it was a "dead duck". l The town council has no skate- park working group and the cost of the land, or raising funds for it was not mentioned at the most recent town council policy committee meeting on August 20.
