THERE were trains, boats but no planes when a couple got married with a distinctively '60s theme on Saturday.

The big day for Darren and Tracey Wheeler became even more memorable when an old London bus, a barge and a steam train provided transport for the occasion.

Beatles fan Darren couldn't wait to hold Tracey's hand and say And I Love Her.

And after the service at Poole Registry Office, they headed out to sea in a 100-year-old barge.

The Poole couple were joined by around 40 or so of their nearest and dearest.

After the boat trip around the Isle of Wight, the guests were picked up outside their hotels and taken to Swanage in a 1959 London Routemaster double-decker.

The final leg - by 1960s steam train The Wessex Bell - was to Corfe Castle Station where the happy couple received their blessing.

Darren, 36, from Parkstone, who works for B&Q, said: "We wanted to mark the special occasion by trying something memorable, so we contacted Back to the '60s wedding service organisers. We liked the idea of the old London buses."

Darren's father Roger, who delivered his best man speech on the train from Swanage, said: "Thank God we didn't have it yesterday when it chucked it down all day."

The man behind the Back to the '60s service, Clive Laban, was even more grateful.

"It turned out a fine day for a wedding. The blessing at Corfe Castle Station is a new thing we have done to add an extra touch. All the guests poured out of the train for the blessing then continued their journey back to Swanage where they were taken back to Poole by the London bus. They all enjoyed a four-course meal on the train part of the journey."

The newlyweds jet off to Cuba next week for their honeymoon.
