Dorchester 4 CHELMSFORD CITY 1 MANAGER Mark Morris' assertion that Dorchester weren't at their peak spells trouble ahead for some of the more suspect defences in the Dr Martens Premier Division.

Last season's record-breaking Eastern Division goalgetters blitzed a Chelmsford defence which had conceded only three goals in their four earlier games - and their tally could easily have been doubled.

Matt Tubbs got the opener for the Magpies after 21 minutes and after Luke Corbett equalised with the Clarets first goal of the season, an outstanding Justin Keeler smashed in a trademark rocket before half-time.

After a bitty second half, the Magpies found their touch again in the last ten minutes with Alex Browne heading his third of the season and substitute Stuart Cooper making his mark by sweeping in a terrific first time volley from ten yards.

Keeler's pace and shooting power had the Clarets reeling from the opening minutes and after his first minute free-kick was headed just over by Andy Harris, he centred for Matt Tubbs to test visiting keeper Paul Nicholls with a header.

Mark Ormerod had to back pedal smartly and fingertip an 11th minute snapshot from journeyman striker Dale Watkins over his bar and when the visitors broke quickly after a Dorchester corner the former non-League international had Ormerod diving to conjure another fierce shot around the post.

But then Michael Walker sent Keeler away down the left and he out-ran full back Jack Wignall before drilling a low ball across the area. Tubbs arrived at full pelt and his first touch from eight yards sent the ball rocketing into the net.

Four minutes later there was almost a carbon copy goal when Keeler again beat Wignall and centred. This time Tubbs was just

beaten to the ball by goalkeeper Paul Nicholls and when it ran loose to Martin Shepherd eight yards out he blazed a first time shot high over the bar.

It was all square on 38 minutes when Alex Browne's lengthy headed clearance was pumped back by Chelmsford's midfield and with the home defence looking to the linesman for an offside decision, Luke Corbett got goalside of Harris and held the defender off before sliding the ball wide of Ormerod.

Almost immediately Keeler's angled blockbuster was beaten out by Nicholls who was left pawing air after 44 minutes when Harris' chip forward floated over Wignall and sat up nicely for Keeler to crash a spectacular left foot volley into the far corner from what looked an impossible angle.

Shepherd was struggling with a calf injury and when he side-footed another Keeler-manufactured chance over the top from close range in the first minute of the second half Morris decided the time had come for a double change.

Jamie Brown took Shepherd's place with Stuart Cooper taking over from Matt Hann on the right and for a while the Magpies previous fluency deserted them.

The twisting and turning runs of Tubbs were still terrorising the Clarets defence however and Russ Edwards was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card after one off-the-ball clattering of the little

striker.

But Tubbs had the last laugh on 80 minutes when he was again chopped down by Edwards just outside the area and from Keeler's free-kick, Browne stole into space to head powerfully past Nicholls for his third goal of the campaign. Nicholls just had enough reach to haul down Tubbs attempt to lob him after a Brown flick on and then a great ball down the line from the former BAT midfielder had Michael Walker

galloping clear after 86 minutes.

His cross picked out Cooper at the far post and he steered a well-taken left foot volley into the far corner.

Ragged Chelmsford could have conceded two more in the last couple of minutes. Keeler left two bewildered defenders in his wake before rolling the ball across the middle where Tubbs was closed down in the nick of time with the goal seemingly at his mercy. Then Cooper, cleverly put through by Matt Holmes, cut inside from the right and hit a low left footer that missed the far post by a fraction.
