BOSS Sean O'Driscoll hailed Cherries' first victory of the season as a "team effort".

Cherries broke their duck by chalking up a 1-0 triumph against Division Two rivals Wrexham on Saturday.

Steve Purches netted the only goal of the game after just eight minutes as Cherries recorded only their second win at the Racecourse Ground in 30 years.

O'Driscoll said: "Everybody from the forwards to Neil Moss put a shift in today.

"We've almost given away the goals we've conceded this season so if Wrexham were going to get anything, they were going to have to work for it, but thankfully they didn't get one. That's a team effort.

"They were under pressure at times so hopefully they will come through that better for the experience and we can take stock and move on.

"We have obviously played better and I think people who have watched us since the start of the season will admit that.

"But, the longer you go without three points, the more it prays on peoples' minds, especially supporters and the media so it's nice to get that one out of the way so you aren't faced with the dreaded question "you haven't won for five games?".

"It was always going to be difficult coming here. They were unbeaten in 18 games so we always knew it was going to be difficult.

"We've always played quite well here but never had the rub of the green and perhaps we got that today. That's something we haven't had all season.

"I'm pleased with the effort they put in. We know we can play better but I'm pleased for everybody.

"We take everybody to QPR, more directors than you can name, and nobody comes to Wrexham so maybe it's a nice place to come for the 60 or 70 people who came to watch us so we are pleased for them."

O'Driscoll added: "I thought we started really well and maybe the goal panicked us a little bit. We took a backwards step, which is human nature, and caused our own problems. We were thankful to get in at half-time still 1-0 up.

"But they are an honest bunch and they know themselves what they need to do. You just need to give them their heads and encourage them to do it and that's what we did in the second half.

"The longer the game went on, the more control we had without playing the way we can.

"Denis (Smith) and Kevin ('Rooster' Russell) will be disappointed they didn't get anything out of the game and rightly so, but I don't think they will begrudge us the three points.

"We will spend Monday analysing what we can do better but for the moment we just want to savour the three points."
