WHEN new organisations emerge - particularly government bodies - it is often difficult to work out whether they will have a meaningful impact or will merely be another layer of state bureaucracy.
The business community in Dorset is certainly still very divided about whether regional development agencies are a good idea.
As yet we have no clear view as to whether the prospect of greater regional government - and the possibility of greater regional autonomy - is a good thing or a bad thing.
Against this background it is very encouraging to see the South West Regional Development Agency delivering on real projects for rural Dorset.
We at the DCCI were delighted when SWERDA acquired the Rolls Mill site in Sturminster Newton and it is great news that the construction of nine business units has now started there. It has long been the case that it is easy to attract developers to the honey pots of Bournemouth and Poole, but much more difficult to create necessary business development in the rural parts of Dorset. Well done SWERDA!
The Daily Echo is proud to support local companies by sponsoring the DCCI as a patron.
