PIRATES have been forced to call off their mouth-watering international challenge match against Team Great Britain tomorrow night (Sept 3).
Poole had been due to host the national side over 15 heats, but will now stage a four-team tournament against Team GB, a Swedish Select and a Premier League Select.
The international challenge has bit the dust as the re-arrangement of domestic meetings for tomorrow following the Scandinavian Grand Prix debacle continues to have major ramifications on British speedway.
Teenage sensation Antonio Lindback, though, will make his second appearance at Wimborne Road.
He lines up for the Swedes alongside Tony Rickardsson, David Ruud and Magnus Zetterstrom.
The Brits line up with David Norris, Dean Barker, Joe Screen and Andrew Appleton, while Craig Boyce, Bjarne Ped-ersen, Krzysztof Kasp-rzak and Leigh Adams represent the Pirates.
Premier League Select are Carl Stonehewer, Craig Watson, Steve Masters and one other.
Poole co-promoter Mike Golding said: "We came up against very difficult unforeseen problems with regard to the international challenge match, some caused by the GP postponement and re-staging.
"When Gothenburg was re-arranged for the weekend just gone, it meant Scott Nicholls was riding eight days out of eight because he had taken the Poole booking, so he can't now ride because he needs to have a rest day between the two GPs.
"Scott wanted to ride at Poole but he has had to pull out and we fully understand and support his situation.
"We also have a situation where because of the GP other Elite League and top-flight fixtures have been re-arranged for tomorrow night, for instance Coventry and Peterborough now meet in their Knockout Cup replay.
"That immediately rul-ed out Lee Richardson, Gary Havelock and Chris Harris from Team GB, while Oliver Allen is injured and other riders who could have stepped into the national side are also unavailable.
"We felt we couldn't put a competitive one-to-seven together for Great Britain, so we have switched the meeting to a four-team tournament instead.
"It is a throw back to the Gothenburg GP being cancelled. It has put extra pressure on riders who would have ridden at Poole.
"They wanted at least one day off to prepare for the Prague GP this weekend. We are disappointed but we don't want to put an under-strength Team GB out in front of Poole's fans.
"We have done a late switch but still come up with a very good meeting and with Antonio riding here again, it should be another good night of action at Wimborne Road."
