HIGH-FLYING Oakmeadians kick off their South-West Division Two (East) campaign on Saturday at Salisbury, with the aim of establishing themselves as the premier rugby club in the region, writes Keith Fairbank.
Having secured promotion in three of the last four seasons, the club is anxious to prove it can challenge its rivals at this level - the highest league in which the club has played in its history.
Since training began in June, head coach Paul Absolom has begun establishing a core squad of up to 30 players and with the addition of new members to the coaching staff, the Meyrick Park outfit are confident they can continue to progress up the league ladder. Following their trip to Salisbury this weekend, Oakmeadians then host their first game at Meyrick Park against Stow-on-the-Wold on September 13.
The ladies team is also optimistic going into the new season, having also secured promotion last year.
Both the men's and ladies' teams are always looking for new, enthusiastic members to play good rugby.
Anyone interested in getting involved with the club is encouraged to contact Bryan King on 01202 471817.
