ALEX PIKE'S love affair with the FA Vase continued on Saturday, as he watched his new club Hamworthy United produce an excellent performance to run out 4-1 winners at Saltash.

The long trip to Cornwall was made easier with the players and club officials enjoying a two night stay, with a round of golf on the weekend agenda.

And the ever-confident Pike, who guided Wimborne to Vase glory in 1992, was in buoyant mood following an emphatic victory.

"The preparation for the game was excellent," said Pike. "The club took us away and put us up in a country club. We played golf on the Friday, and on the Saturday morning we were able to have a light training session. At our level, who else would prepare the lads like that?"

Hammers had to come from behind though, after they conceded a goal on 25 minutes.

Some good work from Darren Orchard and Scott Bedward resulted in the final ball landing at the feet of 17-year-old Dan Cann, who levelled the match on the stroke of half time.

Two goals in a minute shortly after the break turned the game on its head, with Bedward grabbing the first followed by a second goal from Cann.

In the dying minutes of the game Orchard scored the fourth, to set up a home match with Bodmin on September 20 in the next round.
