A WOMAN wept in court as the motorcyclist who branded her a liar and nearly killed her was jailed for 15 months.

Mother-of-one Lisa Haywood was left with horrific injuries and had to have a kidney removed after being catapulted from Ian Gray's powerful Honda motorbike.

During his trial 40-year-old Gray tried to blame Lisa, 33, for the crash at Blandford Road, Poole, last June, insisting she had been driving at the time.

But a jury at Bournemouth Crown Court convicted him of dangerous driving after hearing how Gray, of Field End, Pinner, Middlesex, had persuaded Lisa to sit at the front of his bike to feel how heavy it was.

He then set off at speed, hitting a kerb and catapulting his terrified passenger into a lamp post.

Lisa suffered a ruptured kidney, which had to be removed, a ruptured main artery and several broken bones.

Doctors did not expect her to live but she discharged herself from hospital after 12 days and was nursed at home for the next six months by her devoted partner Steve Roberts.

Defending, Robert Griffiths said: "This was not the worst piece of dangerous driving that has come before the courts.

"It was an impulsive action and not premeditated; a foolish, stupid thing to do with very severe consequences."

Sentencing Gray, Recorder Nigel Seed told him the consequences of his driving had been "appalling.

"You sought to blame the victim and aggravated the undoubted stress she suffered. You have shown no genuine remorse. This offence is so serious only a custodial penalty can be justified."

Gray showed no emotion as he was banned from driving for two years, told he would have to pass an extended test before going back on the road and ordered to pay £1,700 prosecution costs.

Lisa, who is facing further surgery to remove the metalwork from her leg and still needs physiotherapy and counselling, sobbed as she left the courtroom.

She said: "I'm glad he has gone to prison but it should have been for much longer. He could have killed me.

"It will be over for him in a few months time but I will have to live with what he did to me for the rest of my life."
