THE Bridport News is teaming up with the town's rotary club to celebrate those people who have made a special contribution to the life of the town and surrounding area.
To mark rotary's centenary year two new awards are being created with the backing of the News: Bridport Rotary Citizen of the Year; and Young Citizen of the Year.
Readers of the Bridport News are being asked to nominate the people they think qualify for the titles.
Dr Tony Smith, president of Bridport Rotary Club, said: "There are so many unsung heroes around who have done remarkable things that people are not aware of. We are looking for people who have given over and above what the community expects or their normal duties require.
"There are lots of different ways people contribute and we are keen not to have any barriers as to who is eligible."
The contribution can be to any aspect of town or village life. It may be they have provided special help to someone in need, have done significant work as a volunteer or charity worker, or shown a level of heroism, bravery, or kindness which makes them stand out.
Holly Robinson, editor of the Bridport News, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to those people who make a special contribution to the community but may not normally be recognised for their efforts. Everyone knows someone who could be eligible for these awards and we hope to give some of those people the recognition they deserve."
A shortlist will be drawn up by the judging panel, which includes members of the Rotary Council and the editor of the Bridport News, at which stage nominees through to the next stage will be contacted.
The titles of Bridport Rotary Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year will be awarded annually.
