TRAVELLERS have moved onto land belonging to Sir George Meyrick at Hinton.
Paul Hanson, chief executive of the Meyrick Estate, said four caravans had been towed on to a field off the Bransgore road behind the Cat and Fiddle pub on Friday (Sept 3)
He did not know whether they were part of the group of travellers who had antagonised Christchurch residents at 2Riversmeet and then at PC World's car park in Somerford, or were another band altogether.
"We contacted the police and they visited the site and invited the travellers to move on," said Mr Hanson.
"We also instructed bailiffs to serve notice on them and give them until Monday morning to leave."
The travellers refused to leave when asked to by the police officer, based at Ringwood police station.
They will have until 8am on Monday to move.
...and more set up camp at Holes Bay
TRAVELLERS set up camp along Holes Bay in Poole yesterday morning.
Six caravans of travellers arrived at Sterte Esplanade at 11.15am, and told police they plan to stay there for a number of days.
It is believed they may have come to Poole from the Blandford Steam Fair.
Police and consumer protection officers from the council have visited the camp.
Shaun Robson, consumer protection team manager, said: "There are several children with the families and we will now follow our agreed processes in monitoring and managing the encampment."
Inspector Ernie Henley, of Poole police, said officers were also talking to residents.
He said that no public disorder would be tolerated.
