BASHLEY booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup and a trip to Ashford Town (Middlesex) after disposing of Camberley Town by the odd goal in three at Bashley Road.

Richard Gillespie grabbed a brace, making it seven goals this season so far, in a game Bash deserved to gain victory but were made to frantically hold on towards a nail-biting final.

Goals seem to be fairly easy to come by for the New Forest club just lately, having scored nine goals in two matches over the bank holiday period.

And Bash threatened to keep that kind of tally up, when after just three minutes of this cup-tie, they took the lead.

Chris Ferrett delivered an inch perfect cross for Gillespie to out-jump a defender and head home to give Bash the lead.

It wasn't to be an afternoon of goal after goal for the home side however, and Bash had to defend well to keep the visitors at bay.

David Elm made some fine saves in the opening half to keep out Grant Stevens and Paul Dadson and then back up the other end Gillespie came close to grabbing his second on a couple of occasions.

It finally did come when some unselfish play from Andy Culliford set up the hot-shot striker for a simple tap in to double the Bash lead.

They entered the half time dressing room 2-0 up and cruising but, as England were later that evening to prove that that kind of lead should not be taken for granted, so it transpired that Camberley were not about to collapse and give in.

Robbie Burns fired in a low shot past Elm to reduce the deficit and with 12 minutes plus stoppage time remaining, the Bash faithful, who were eventually rewarded, had to sweat for a little bit longer.
