BOURNEMOUTH'S West Hants Club had its hopes of winning the Kia National Club League title dashed by its old rival Edgbaston Priory in Saturday's semi-finals.

The Birmingham team has dominated the ladies event in recent years and beat West Hants at the same stage last year.

On the blistering clay of the West Hants Club, Dorset's Anna White had a comfortable 6-0 6-2 win again over Annabel Blow and Anna's older sister Jane survived a marathon struggle to defeat Edgbaston's Hannah Grady 6-2 4-6 6-4.

But the 2-0 lead was eroded by Warwickshire's Clare Lyte who beat Anna Sharp 6-4 6-1.

Natasha Hill levelled the score after beating Tamsin Wainwright 5-7 7-6 6-1 and the West Hants doubles players were able to come back into contention in the doubles.

The Whites and Wainwright and Helen Lawson both lost their doubles matches in straight sets.

"It was disappointing," said West Hants captain Karen Adams.

"Last year we were 3-1 down going into the doubles so we were in a stronger position this year.

"I think we were outplayed, they deserved it. But we will definitely play this event next year."

Edgbaston Priory went on to win the final beating Lancashire's Holcombe Brook 4-2 yesterday.

Jersey's Ceasarean, regulars at Bournemouth but never finalists until yesterday, won the men's event.

After drawing level 3-3 with Sutton Tennis and Squash Club they dug deep to resist three match points at 9-6 in the third of the three tiebreak shoot outs, eventually clinching the match 14-12.
