BOURNEMOUTH council's latest clampdown on speeding cyclists has received heavy criticism from one of the country's top columnists.

Richard Littlejohn from The Sun was so incensed to hear that officers armed with hand-held radar guns had taken to Boscombe promenade - as reported in the Daily Echo last week - that he dedicated his entire column on Tuesday to it.

In it he said that speed cameras for cyclists "smack of overkill" and questioned how anyone was supposed to tell whether or not they were going more than the 10mph limit.
