A TOWN is in shock following the death of a popular teenager who was killed on holiday in Cyprus.

Jamie Guy, 18, of Hinton Close, Blandford - a talented footballer with the town's youth sides - died when his motorcycle was involved in a collision near Ayia Napa.

He was on holiday with friends when the tragedy occurred.

Jamie's distraught parents, Colin and Jennifer, brought back his body after flying out to the resort.

They are being comforted by relatives and were yesterday too shocked to speak about the tragedy.

All of the town's youth Football teams will hold a minute's silence in memory of Jamie before their games on Sunday.

Jamie worked at Flight Refuelling in Wimborne, where colleagues have been left stunned by his death.

Teachers at the Blandford School, where Jamie was a pupil between September 1999 and July 2002, also paid tribute.

Deputy head teacher Mick Wills said the school had sent a letter to Jamie's parents offering the school's condolences.

"Everyone here is shocked by what has happened," he said. "Jamie was a very capable footballer but on top of that he was a highly motivated boy, very respectful and ambitious."

Family neighbour and ex-chairman of Blandford Youth Football Eddie Andrew said: "He was a fine young man and a good footballer. His good nature and cheerful approach to life was always noticeable and he will be sadly missed.

"He started when he was a youngster and went right through the youth system and played for the county and his school."

A police spokesman confirmed that Jamie died last Friday as the result of an accident and that an inquest had yet to be opened.
