AS a North Dorset community mourns the death of a talented footballer questions are being asked over road safety on the Greek island where he died.
Jamie Guy, 18, of Hinton Close, Blandford, was on holiday with friends in Cyprus when his motorcycle was involved in a collision on Friday, September 3.
The tragedy is just one of many to have struck the island in the past year and a report out this week revealed the death toll on the island's roads has reached 75. There have been seven collisions there in the past few days - and articles in Greek newspapers are raising concerns about safety.
Meanwhile, as friends and family grieve for Jamie, tributes have been paid by fellow sportsmen at the football club he was preparing to join and by colleagues at Flight Refuelling in Wimborne where Jamie was an apprentice.
The pre-season welcome on Blandford HMR football club website contains an expression of sadness at Jamie's death: "He was due to sign for us as soon as his leg was sorted. I dread to think how his close friends feel," it says.
"I can only pass on my best wishes to his family and friends after this accident, which really puts things into perspective."
And a two-minute silence in memory of Jamie was due to be held at the club's next fixture.
Flight Refuelling training manager Gerry Bishop said: "He was a valued and popular member of staff, particularly among his year group.
"They are absolutely shocked at what's happened and they want to present a fitting memorial to him in time."
