THE Deadwood Stage will be rolling on to the Weymouth Pavilion stage later this month when the town's operatic society stages its annual autumn show.
This year they have chosen the classic Western musical Calamity Jane as their production - a poignant choice as Doris Day who starred in the film of the show, turned 80 earlier this year.
The energetic show is the story of tomboyish whip-crackin' Calamity who tries to woo an army officer by setting aside her trousers and guns for more genteel dresses and housework, but ends up stealing the heart of Wild 'Buffalo' Bill Hickok.
A genuinely feelgood show stuffed with top songs including The Deadwood Stage, Windy City and My Secret Love, it is a wonderful show for all ages.
The cast includes Karen Pankhurst as Calamity, Simon Dunford as Wild Bill Hickock, Stella Brading as Katie Brown, Steve Nicholas as Lieut Danny Gilmartin, Ian Jefferis as Henry Miller, Lynne Mullins as Susan Miller, Claire Timms as Adelaide Adams and Dave Clinch as Francis Fryer.
Operatic society spokeswoman Stella Brading said: "It's going reeally well and I think it will be a great show. It's one of those that everyone has grown up with and knows all the songs from so I hope people come and enjoy it.
"It is also such a vibrant show that we have got to the point where we are all just itching to get out on stage and get on with it."
Calamity Jane is at Weymouth Pavilion from Wednesday, September 29, to Saturday, October 2. Performances are at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30. Tickets are £9 plus concessions - call the box office on 01305 783225 for bookings and further details.
