POLICE and fire and rescue teams believe that a hut on Monmouth beach in Lyme Regis was set ablaze deliber ately. Officers found rubbish and detected an accelerant - pos sibly petrol - at the scene of the blaze last Friday, which left most of the beach hut and its contents in ruins. Fire and rescue officers kept a gas cylinder at the rear of the hut cold with water until the blaze was put out and also cordoned off the area. Coun Sally Holman, who owns a beach chalet, said the blaze was another example of a lack of police presence in the town. She said: "There is now no regular inspection of the area, which we would all welcome." Police say there have been a number of minor incidents at the beach huts recently - although not all of them have been reported to police - and are appealing for information: Call Lyme Regis police on 01297 442603 if you can help.
