DIGITAL communications agency M-Corp, in conjunction with management consultancy Accenture, has delivered an 18,000-plus user intranet for the RNLI.

Somerley-based M-Corp's system has saved the RNLI a "significant overspend" on the orig-inal solution.

The intranet - named "Porthole" - was borne from the desire to improve knowledge and communications throughout the RNLI.

After winning the contract, Accenture approached M-Corp for the provision of the web content management system, based on the agency's technical expertise and existing relationship with RNLI.

"M-Corp made an ideal strategic partner for this project, due to its extensive knowledge of the content management system industry and the fact that it has already delivered a number of content-managed websites for the RNLI," said Accenture's Simon Noakes. "We will continue to work with RNLI and M-Corp to ensure the ongoing success of this system."

The RNLI, which has more than 230 lifeboat stations and rescues an average of 6,500 people each year, continues to depend on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income.

Part of the Porthole project was to improve creativity and initiative in fund-raising and lifesaving - as well as cut the volume and cost of printed materials currently used for in-ternal communications.
