VOLUNTEERS have completed a day learning how to lay dry stone walls on Portland as part of their Prince's Trust course.
The volunteers, mostly from the Weymouth and Bridport area, tackled the walling day under the watchful gaze of instructor Sean Gilvear.
He showed the volunteers how to lay their wall out properly so it did not fall down, starting carefully with flat stones and then more rounded ones, with the whole structure being strengthened using small stones.
One of the volunteers, Amy Evans, 19, of Chickerell Road, Weymouth, said: "I absolutely loved it. It was brilliant. I wish I could do it every day.
"The best part was doing something hands-on out in the fresh air, doing some real work.
"We felt we were all doing something useful on Portland by repairing a wall which had fallen down after hundreds of years."
