LYMINGTON and New Milton moved up to 10th place in Wessex Division One and have at least two games in hand over almost all the teams above them following their 5-2 success over VT FC at Fawcett's Field.
Linnets boss Ian Robinson was pleased with the three points in a game that in the end proved to be a comfortable victory.
Robinson said: "We played in fits and starts and I was a bit disappointed with giving away two goals, but I'm happy with a win.
"They were quite a physically strong side but when we started to play football there was only one team in it."
The opening goal came after just three minutes of the match when Ben Thomson interchanged passes before firing home.
The newly promoted visitors were level though after only 10 minutes, with Kevin Gibbons getting on the scoresheet for VT with a header from a corner.
The game seemed to settle down after the explosive start and just before half-time Darren Crook headed the Linnets back in front from a Sam Carter cross.
After the break Robinson's troops deservedly increased their lead when Thomson fired home his second of the afternoon after some good approach work from Paddy James. James then turned from provider to goalscorer, tucking a decent effort under the body of the VT keeper for a 4-1 lead.
Steve Wheatland pulled a goal back for the visitors but, in the last few minutes of the match, the best goal of the afternoon was lashed home from the edge of the box by Kevin James to make it a healthy 5-2 triumph for the New Foresters.
Lymington and New Milton: Watson, Curtis, Towler, Sheppard, P Smith, Thomson (Reacord 70), C Smith, Anderson, Carter (K James 70), Crook (Jackson 70), P James.
l Wimborne Town's victory at Winchester City last season was never going to be repeated this time around, following a resounding 5-0 win for the reigning Wessex League champions at City's Denplan ground.
Neil Hard's side took the lead after just two minutes when Ian Buckman found the back of the net from the edge of the 18-yard box.
By half-time the hosts were four goals to the good, after a Mark Jones brace and a fourth goal from in-form striker Jamie Musslewhite.
It just wasn't to be the Magpies' day with goalkeeper Stewart Kearn having to be replaced by defender Paul Roast following a collision with former Wimborne midfielder Mark Smith.
Smith then rubbed salt into Wimborne's wounds in the second half with goal number five.
Wimborne Town: Kearn (Doyle 35), Phillipson-Masters, Atkins, White, Roast, Colman, Oldbury, Arnold, Clark (O'Connell 45), Reid, Cooper.
