BASHLEY slipped to their second Ryman League Division One defeat of the season in a controversial 2-1 reverse at Dorking, leaving Bash boss Geoff Butler in no doubt as to who was to blame for his side's defeat.

With the home side 2-1 up with three minutes to go, it looked as though the New Foresters had been given a lifeline when Danny Gibbons was chopped to the ground inside the Dorking penalty box.

The referee waved play on which, on top of another decision in the first half, infuriated Butler.

He said: "I have never seen an easier penalty to give in all my life and the referee bottled it.

"The referee was arrogant. There was an incident in the first half when they crossed the ball in and the linesman put his flag up for offside.

"The referee hadn't seen the linesman put his flag up and we headed it out for a corner

"We were shouting to the referee that it was offside and then the linesman put his flag down.

"Instead of it being a free kick to us, they had a corner and won a few more after that, which put us under a bit of pressure.

"I spoke to the referee nice and quietly coming out at the start of the second half and his attitude was so arrogant and so unapproachable.

"He just laughed and said 'we've had a talk about it."

There seems to be a growing trend of more and more managers to express their anger at officials these days and Butler is one such boss that is far from happy with the decision-makers.

He added: "If anyone in football is concerned about the relationship between managers and officials, then this guy was absolutely the reason why there is a problem with officials.

"I just said to the linesman 'why didn't you keep your flag up?' He just told me to go away.

"I've been in the game for 40 years and that's a horrible attitude to have and it just winds people up.

"To me I'm more annoyed about the referee and his performance.

"It was probably the referee's fault today why we didn't get a point but it's not his fault why we didn't get a win.

"The reason we didn't get a win is because we gave goals away at one end and missed chances at the other.

"While you're doing that, you're always going to struggle."

The game got off to a flying start with Nusung taking advantage of some sloppy defending to give Dorking the lead after just seven minutes.

Another four minutes had lapsed and the game was back to all-square with Gibbons heading home at the near post for 1-1.

On another day, Richard Gillespie might have enjoyed a hat-trick. He had an effort cleared off the line from a corner in the opening half, a header saved on the line by the goalkeeper and then narrowly missed the target in a one-on-one with the keeper in the second period.

Just after the hour mark, Dorking got their winner when a mix-up in midfield allowed Nusung to slip through on goal. He then rounded the on-coming David Elm in the Bash goal and slotted home an angled ball.
