DORSET JUNIOR Luke Joy could be on his way to America this winter after being handed a wild card into the Faldo Series finals at Burhill in Surrey in October after two outstanding rounds.
Joy, a member at both Canford Magna and Broadstone, was only able to play in two of the three tournaments, but won them both in the under-16 section.
There was a feeling that, despite his success, at Royal St Georges and Burhill, he would be denied a place in final. He was unable to play in the third medal at Walton Heath as it clashed with Dorset's involvements in the Four Counties junior championship at Royal North Devon.
But he has been asked to compete against half-a-dozen leading players in the 36-hole final on October 10.
The winner is invited to spend a week with Faldo at the David Leadbetter Academy at Champion's Gate in Orlando, Florida, this winter.
The sixth former at Corfe Hills who is embarking in A level courses in history, PE and English plays off scratch and is currently leading the Dorset Elite Junior squad order of merit.
The final event is the first of the winter Henderson Trophy Series at Dudsbury in the autumn.
He spends some time with his coach Martin Cummins at Canford Magna.
Joy, who came third in the county strokeplay championships at Isle of Purbeck, has already won a national title. He won the Duke of York trophy as the Weetabix under 16 champion over the second course at Forest of Arden, near Coventry.
He carded rounds of 67 and 70 for a one-under-par 137 after qualifying as the winner of the South West region at Launceston where he won by three shots.
