A GROUP of artistic youngsters put their creative talents to good use when they scooped first prize in a local art competition.
The young people created a huge mosaic dragonfly from mirror tiles as part of an environmental day at Bourne Valley Youth Centre in Alderney, Poole.
Originally planned to decorate the wall of the youth centre, the 5ft by 3ft creation was entered into the Art Pro Loco competition, where it was placed first, and is now temporarily on display at Upton Country Park, where it has pride of place in the Peacock Gallery.
The group was also awarded a £40 cheque for the centre's children's clubs. The free exhibition, which is open from 10.30am to 4pm until October 3, features various entries into the annual art competition, which aimed this year to celebrate the Bourne Valley Greenway.
After the display closes, the dragonfly will be returned to the youth centre, where it will be put up on the wall alongside a similar mosaic of a lizard, which was also created at the environmental day with tiles donated by B&Q at Fleetsbridge.
