WEYMOUTH speedway's on/off 50th anniversary meeting is back on.
The three times postponed clash between Great Britain under-21s and Young Australia will now take place at the Wessex Stadium on Saturday, October 9 (6pm).
And the night promises to be a memorable one for Haven Wildcats fans with a line-up of top entertainment for all the family.
Apart from the international fixture, there will be a junior clash between Weymouth and East-bourne during the second half. Also planned are demonstration heats from some of the club's youngest training school pupils and an exhibition of vintage bikes.
Wildcats boss Brian White said: "Celebrating 50 years since speedway first took place in the town was one of the club's major priorities this season. So far we've been scuppered by the weather and unavailabilities but hopefully the meeting will go ahead.
"We've gone for the Saturday because our landlords Weymouth Football Club have a game on the Friday night and we've moved the start time to 6pm to allow Football fans the chance to watch the England v Wales match on the Saturday afternoon.
"It promises to be a great night out and we've tried to include something for everyone in the programme. The GB v Australia clash is obviously the highlight but I know people are also looking forward to seeing the juniors and training school riders in action.
"The vintage bike display will no doubt stir some memories and all we can do now is pray for decent weather."
Also arranged for the occasion is a parade of former Weymouth speedway greats including the likes of Martin Yeates and Geoff Swindells.
And White is appealing for any other stars who have pulled on a Scorchers, Wizards or Wildcats race jacket to join in the fun.
"If there are any ex-Weymouth riders out there who fancy a night out," he said, "I'd love to hear from them. It would be great to see as many as possible on the night and I know the fans would really appreciate it.
"Anyone who fancies joining in our celebrations should give me a call on 07793838787."
