WOODROFFE Schools Greenpower motor racing team have confirmed their place at the front of the grid with another high- speed victory. Following their success in the Dorset heats in June, the Lyme Regis students travelled to the regional finals in Somerset to confirm the position of the original battery-powered car Quicksilver in the national final and also to qualify their new car V Silver Bullet. Competing on a track at the Haynes motor museum at Sparkford, the pupils again put in a brilliant team performance. Their efficient driver and battery changes, together with intelligent and skilled driving over the six hours, was enough to secure outright victory for Quicksilver and its experienced crew, with 110 miles covered. Silver Bullet suffered a persistent mechanical problem and finished out of the top three but should still qualify for the final on the famous Goodwood circuit on October 10 as a sister car of a qualifier, and having completed a high enough mileage. Now the team is looking for more sponsors to help meet the cost of running two cars. A spokesman said: We only have one set of overalls and need help with clothing along with helmets and travelling costs. In return for sponsorship the companys name or logo is carried on the cars. The Woodroffe Greenpower team is currently sponsored by Dickies protective clothing, Colyton Garage, Westcrete, Dave Massam motorcycles, Soanes cycles, Quicks Engineering and LDE systems. f Greenpower is an organisation to promote engineering and environmentally friendly fuels to students through a national competition. The main overall sponsors are the Daily Telegraph and Ford motor company
