BROCKENHURST boss Graham Kemp shouldered the blame as his much-changed side slipped to a frustrating home defeat to Wessex One new boys VTFC.

The player-manager made five changes from the team who conquered Nationwide Conference South outfit Lewes in the FA Cup on Saturday, including leaving himself out, as he aimed to rest some legs and provide his patient squad players with a chance to shine.

But despite creating enough chances to have won the game comfortably, Brock fell to their first defeat in five games courtesy of a goalkeeping error by back-up stopper Neil Potter.

He could only half-stop a firmly-hit cross-shot and as the ball bounced in front of him, it ricocheted off his shoulder into the roof of the net.

Kemp, however, refused to lay the blame at the hands of Potter, but instead insisted he had probably got the selection wrong this time.

He said: "I made a lot of changes from Saturday and it was probably too many. But when do you give the lads on the bench a chance? You want to try and keep everyone happy so it's a fine balancing act.

"We just can't get any impetus going in the league. Our next four games are cup games and we just keep getting the occasional league game one at a time.

"Potts (Potter) hasn't even had a reserve game of late as he's had to be on the bench for our cup matches, so I can't blame him for being a bit rusty.

"But we had the chances to win it. Even with the full team out there we wouldn't have created three better chances than the ones that fell to Jason Lovell and on another night he would have buried them."

Lovell twice missed the target with close-range headers and had an effort saved when clean through.
