JEREMY Cook was Oakmedians' inspiration as they came from behind to grab the points with a 24-16 win over Aylesbury in Powergen South West Division Two East.

Full-back Cook scored 19 of Oaks' 24 points as he plundered two tries, three conversions and a penalty in a blustery clash that saw Oaks extend their 100 per cent start to the new league season.

The Meyrick Park side were six points adrift midway through the first half after conceding two penalties before Jamie Reed finished off some good work from Cook, Aaron Saunders and Hayden Hokianga for their first try of the afternoon. Cook duly converted into the wind before Ayelsbury hit back with a try of their own after a fast break from a line-out.

The Bournemouth-based club however nosed in front on the stroke of half-time as a fluent passing move ended with Cook touching down, and subsequently converted for a three-point advantage at the break.

Oaks moved further ahead with a controlled second-half performance as Cook notched with a long-distance penalty before he put the seal on the win seven minutes from time with his second touch-down of the afternoon.

Shaun Botha made the break allowing the backs to get in on the act to set the full-back free once more for the score, which he again converted.

Aylesbury scored a consolation try late in the day, but it was Oaks who deservedly took the points.

Oakmeadians: Cook, Roddis, Saunders, Harman, Van. Schwalkwyk, Walton, Reed (Brady), Siaki, Gallagher, Riley (Bongard), Croker, Ramsey, (Clarke) Blewett, Botha, Hokianga.

Bournemouth went down to their first defeat of the season with a bad-tempered 13-7 loss at Frome in Southern Counties South.

Several players were sent to sin bin as the clash became heated midway through the first half. A Frome forward was given time to cool of for throwing a punch and was quickly joined by each side's hookers for a minor scuffle.

After falling behind to a penalty, Chris Denholm - on as an early replacement - powered over for Bournemouth and Jon Sanchez kicked the resultant conversion to put them 7-3 ahead.

But it was as good as it got for the visitors as Frome took a stranglehold on the game and got the all-important try just four minutes from time to claim the points.

Bournemouth, however, could have given themselves the chance to grab an unlikely victory right at the death as captain Guy Spencer broke through but his desperate pass out of the tackle was too high for Robert Bruce to gather cleanly and he knocked on what might have been a winning score.

Bournemouth: Spencer, McHugh, Bruce, Dallyn, (Brock), Rose, Sanchez, Hook, Holdaway, Cawley (Denholm), Clarke, Harris, Seward, Dubach (Cawley 64), Kiely, Kenny.

Oaks' 2nds played out an entertaining 17-17 draw in their clash with East Dorset.

Tim Flower made one try and scored another while Neil Tarditi's was the pick of the bunch with a 70 metre sprint for the line.

Oaks' 3rds were turned over by Bournemouth 2nds in a 17-13 defeat. Steve Egleton put Oaks ahead with a clever blind-side back row move, while Ian Phillips added a penalty shortly afterwards.

But Bournemouth answered back in style with three tries to leave Ian Carter's late effort for Oaks as nothing more than a consolation.

Bournemouth 3rds were held to a 17-17 draw at Shelborne.
