FRANCISCO Ramos today revealed how he owes Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson a debt of thanks for helping set up his move to Weymouth.

The Portuguese goalkeeper capped an impressive Terras debut with a clean-sheet in the FA Cup win over Dorchester Town last weekend.

And the 20-year-old former Benfica star, who has penned a deal until the end of the season at the Wessex Stadium, says a career in English football is a dream come true.

He told Echosport: "I have only been in England for about three weeks now but I really like it here and am glad to be at Weymouth.

"It has always been my dream to play in England one day and I am very pleased to be doing it now.

"I was the third keeper for Benfica, who are one of the biggest teams in Portugal, but could not quite break through into the first team.

"I then decided I wanted to try and play in England so my agent arranged for me to come over.

"Gary Johnson at Yeovil Town kindly allowed me to train with them for a couple of weeks and I played a couple of games for Sherborne during that time.

"Everything seemed to happen very quickly after that and I think Gary got in touch with Steve Claridge and the next thing I know I am signing for Weymouth."

Ramos, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Saturday, said he did not worry about being thrown in the deep end in last weekend's big local derby.

"I was told before the game that playing Dorchester was very important for the fans and I was pleased with how it went," he said.

"I was a little bit nervous but the noise from the crowd helped me settle down and I was very happy that we won.

"The other players have been friendly towards me and I hope that I will improve as time goes on."

Ramos is currently staying in the Hotel Prince Regent in Weymouth, owned by Terras chief executive Martyn Harrison, and plans to find part-time employment locally to supplement his income.

"My target is to one day play in the Premiership," he said.

"I know that will take a lot of work but I hope to make it happen.

"I would like to thank Steve Claridge for giving me this chance and I hope to reward Weymouth with some good performances."

Claridge today said he hoped dropped keeper Jason Matthews, who has made way for Ramos, would stay at the club and fight for his place.

"I took a chance with Francisco, as we have with other keepers in the past, but this time it seems to have paid off," he said.

"The deal took a bit of work, and reserve player Martin Underhay was a big help in sorting it all out, but the gamble seems to have worked.

"But I don't want people to think this is the end for Jason because I feel it is important we have competition for every place in the squad."
