Before Sunset (15) Regent (from Mon). Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy reprise their roles in Richard Linklater's follow up to the achingly romantic Before Sunrise. Here. The two characters meet again after nine years and find the possibilities are still there. Surprising and emotionally involving. ****

Bride & Prejudice (12A) UCI, Odeon. Jane Austen gets the Bollywood treatment in a bizarre treat. ***

The Cat's Meow (12A) Dorset Moviola, Witchampton (Wed only), Sherborne (Thurs only). Eddie Izzard as Charlie Chaplin in fictionalised account of a real-life Hollywood whodunnit. ***

Collateral (15) UCI, Odeon. Tom Cruise as a hitman hijacks a taxi driven by the unfulfilled Max (Jamie Foxx) as he sets out to execute a string of hits in one night. Great interplay between Cruise and Foxx, Michael Mann's superbly handled direction and a top drawer story make this the one to see at the moment. ****

The Company (12A) Dorset Moviola, Stour Provost (Fri only). Robert Altman's ensemble drama about a group of ballet dancers stars Neve Campbell ad Malcolm McDowell. ***

Cold Mountain (15) Dorset Moviola, Sandford Orcas (Fri only). Jude Law and Nicole Kidman in Anthony Minghella's compelling Civil War drama ably supported by Ray Winstone, Renee Zellweger, Donald Sutherland and more. ****

Connie & Carla (12A) Dorset Moviola, Ferndown (Fri only), Odeon (Sat, Sun only). Nia Vardolas and Toni Collette hide from the mob in a troupe of drag queens. ***

CyberWorld 3D (U) IMAX. Entertaining novelty in which a spritely host takes us on a tour of CyberWorld, a museum of 3D exhibits including £d clips from The Simpsons and Antz. ***

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (12A). UCI (not Sat, Sun), Odeon. Goofy comedy with Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller as rival gym bosses who compete for their future in a national dodgeball tournament. It's all very daft, ideal for when nothing but a no-brainer will do. ***

Freaky Friday (PG) UCI (Sat, Sun only). Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who don't get on, until they swap bodies for a day. Better than expected. ***

Garfield (U) UCI, Odeon (both Sat, Sun only). Bill Murray's casting as the voice of the popular cat is the best thing about this weak movie version. **

Girl with a Pearl Earring (12A) Dorset Moviola, Iwerne Minster (Thurs only). Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson in ponderous drama about the servant girl who becomes the muse of Dutch master Vermeer. ***

Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (PG) Odeon (Sat, Sun only). Harry goes back to school where he is pursued by a wizard-killer who has escaped from prison. Gary Oldman, Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon join the regulars. ***

Hero (12A) UCI. Spectacular, beautifully filmed and choreographed martial arts epic in which Jet Li riffs on the Man With No Name as he defeats three assassins who sought to murder a powerful warlord in pre-unified China. Simply stunning. *****

Into the Deep 3D (U) IMAX. Illuminating underwater documentary captures the birth of a shark, squids mating, a lobster moulting and a fish protecting its nest. ***

Layer Cake (15) UCI, Odeon. Stylish Brit-crime flick directed by Lock Stock/Snatch producer Matthew Vaughn, in which a nameless coke dealer tries to retire but is forced back into the underworld for one last job. Daniel Craig, Kenneth Cranham, Michael Gambon and Sienna Miller star. ****

Man on Fire (18) UCI, ABC. Superior revenge thriller with Denzel Washington as an ex-Marine who swears revenge on those who destroyed the family he was hired to protect. ****

Monsoon Wedding (15) Dorset Moviola, Shillingstone (Sat only). Chaotic domestic drama revolving around the preparations for an arranged marriage in India. ***

The Motorcycle Diaries (15) Lighthouse. Walter Salles' excellent road movie in which the young Che Guevara and his medical school friend set out on a motorcycle journey through South American in the early 1950s during which Che forms his political ideas. Gael Garcia Bernal stars. ****

New York Minute (PG) Odeon (Sat, Sun only). Mary-Ann and Ashley Olsen star as adversarial sisters who join forces so that one can pass an exam and the other can meet her favourite band. **

Open Water (15) Odeon, Rex. Tense and involving low budget thriller in which two divers are left stranded in the ocean with only the sharks for company... and they're real sharks! ****

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (15) UCI. Alice wakes up in Raccoon City, a city of the dead, and must escape Nemesis, the latest creation of Umbrella. Or some such nonsense that only video game-heads can comprehend. **

Saw (18) UCI, ABC. Two men wake up in the lair of a serial killer... with a dead body between them. Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Leigh Whannell star. **

Shark Tale (U) UCI, Odeon (previews Sat, Sun only). Watery animated romp centred around the death of the son of a shark mob boss. Voices include Will Smith, Robert De Niro and Renee Zellweger. ***

Shrek 2 (U) ABC (Sat, Sun only). When Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are invited to her parents' kingdom to celebrate their nuptuals, all manner of mischief is unleashed by the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) and scene-stealing hired assassin Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). ****

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (PG) UCI, Odeon. Audacious 30s-style sci-fi romp in which the actors perform in front of digitally-created backgrounds as Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie fight to save the world. ****

The Story of the Weeping Camel (U) Lighthouse. Fascinating docu-drama offering a glimpse at the day-to-day survival for a family of herders in the Gobi desert.

The Terminal (12A) Odeon (not Sat, Sun). Steven Spielberg's slightly quirky comedy-drama finds Tom Hanks in great form as a stateless Eastern European stranded at JFK airport which becomes his home for nine months. A finely crafted story is let down a little by the pat ending, but it's a relatively minor quibble. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Stanley Tucci co-star. ***

Thunderbirds (PG) ABC (Sat, Sun only). Arch villain The Hood invades Tracy Island while the big boys are away, leaving only young Alan to save the world. Ben Kingsley and Bill Paxton star. ***

Under the Tuscan Sun (12A) Dorset Moviola, Norton sub Hamdon (Tues only). An American divorcee buys a villa in Tuscany and turns her life around. Diane Lane stars. ***

Wimbledon (12A) UCI, ABC. Frothy rom-com with Paul Bettany as a fading British tennis star and Kirsten Dunst as the American young gun who puts some zap back into his serve. ***

Wondrous Oblivion (PG) Dorset Moviola, Ibberton (Sat only). Culture clash drama set in 60s London where a young Jewish boy learns about the joy of cricket from his Jamaican neighbours. ***
