COUN Peter Bean told councillors how he had "lost a lot of sleep" after giving the mayor his support at last week's meeting. Coun Bean stated clearly at the time that he thought giving the guides the grant - even though it was past the deadline and had not been offered to other organisations - could set a dangerous precedent for the council. But he said, the mayor had asked for his support three days before the meeting and even though he felt it was the wrong decision, he had pledged his loyalty to the mayor. He added: "No-one had better ask me for their support in the future, because I'm going to make up my mind on the night, so it doesn't put me in an embarrassing position."
