MARK Robinson admitted he and his Dorchester Town team mates were disappointed to leave Milton Road with just a point last night.
On paper, a 2-2 draw at high-flying Cambridge City was an excellent result for Mark Morris' men, coming as it did on the back of last week's frustrating FA Cup exit at the hands of neighbours Wey-mouth.
But Robinson, who got his name on the scoresheet along with captain Alex Browne, reckons the Dorset side could have returned with all three points but for some outstanding goalkeeping by Alan Calton.
He explained: "Before the game we would have settled for a draw. Cambridge are going really well at the moment and they went to Worcester and won 3-1 last week which not many sides will do.
"It's a great surface at Milton Road which allowed both teams to play good, attractive football and we're probably a little disappointed not to have won the game.
"They went in front in the first half pretty much against the run of play and it took a brilliant save by Calton from Jamie Brown to keep them in front.
"I then managed to get on the end of a superb cross from Simon Radcliffe to equalise but they've gone in front again and left us with work to do."
He added: "But the team spirit is so good at the moment that we
didn't panic or drop our heads and kept on battling to the end. With about 15 minutes to go Alex scored with a great header and we could have gone on to win it from there.
"Their keeper has to take credit however, for three or four outrageous saves which have kept Cambridge in the hunt. A couple of them were real world class efforts and on another day he wouldn't have got anywhere near them."
Robinson revealed that boss Morris was happy with the display, especially after that FA Cup derby heartbreak.
"The manager was really pleased with the performance," he added. "Even when we were 1-0 down he was happy with the way things were going. He just told us to stick at it and the breaks would come, and he was right.
"Everyone was a bit down after the Weymouth game because we really felt a draw would have been a fairer result. But we've picked ourselves up and got on with the job and scored a very creditable draw at one of the Conference South pacesetters."
