BUS passengers got a surprise when they were confronted with drivers wearing shocking pink.

It was all part of Yellow Buses Pink Mufti Day which involved around 150 employees dressing in pink to raise money for charity Breast Cancer Care.

Babies, gangsters and a pink ferret were among some of the wacky characters helping to raise cash at the offices at Mallard Road, while in Yellow Buses' body shop engineers got into the spirit of things by donning pink boiler suits donated by laundry firm Sunlight.

There was even a Sgt Pepper character based on outfits worn by the Fab Four on the famous Beatles album.

Organiser Jenni Wilkinson said that the entire Bournemouth Transport staff had joined in the special day.

She said: "We do a couple of charity days a year and the October one is kept for breast cancer awareness.

"This is the second time we have done it. Everyone was allowed to wear whatever they chose but we suggested they wear an item of pink.

"Some people are just wearing badges.

"There is just pink everywhere and even in the body shop they are wearing pink as well. It is something we can all get involved in."

Last year the stunt raised around £200 but this year Yellow Buses is determined to smash that figure.

Everyone taking part in the special day donates a minimum of £1 and staff have been dropping more cash into collecting boxes.

Jenni added: "Some of the drivers are collecting donations off the customers. One of the drivers said this morning that someone wanted to take his picture and he said he would do it for a donation.

"We also have collection boxes. But it is not just about donations but about awareness.

"I don't think there is anybody out there who has not been touched by breast cancer."
