WEYMOUTH 5 CINDERFORD TOWN 0 THE young Terras stormed through to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup with a crushing defeat of Midland Alliance League opposition at the Wessex Stadium last night.
Manager Paul Hammond said he was delighted with the high level of play his under-18 side have shown in the competition.
"I have high hopes that some of these young players will eventually progress to become Weymouth's young stars of the future," he said.
Striker Chris Skinner stole the man-of-the-match honours for the Terras on a wet and windy night with two goals and two assists.
After early pressure from the home side, Terras goalkeeper Simon Evans had to pull off a brilliant 17th minute save to stop the visitors taking a surprise lead.
Within five minutes the Terras had forged ahead when Ryan Hill's perfectly flighted free-kick was headed in at the far post by Nathan Walker.
Skinner ended a mazey dribble with a through ball that created the opening for Carl McClements to make it 2-0 at the interval.
The Terras quickly returned to the attack after the re-start with some free-flowing passes and excellent movement and Hill struck their third on 55 minutes when he bent a free-kick around the Cinderford wall.
With the hard-working visitors struggling to contain their confident hosts, Sam Charles opened up their defence again on the hour and squared for Skinner to grab the fourth goal.
The Cinderford goalkeeper then produced a superb save to keep out another Hill free- kick after Chris Emburey was brought down as he ran on to Skinner's through pass.
Scott Dixon's audacious effort from the halfway line was tipped over by the visitors keeper before Skinner completed the scoring two minutes from time.
He was fouled inside the area after another teasing run and got to his feet to slot home the spot kick. The Terras now meet either Mangotsfield or Hereford in the next round.
