BOO, ZINO AND THE SNURKS (U): A fairy-tale adventure set in the mystical world of Gaya, where a small community battles against the encroaching forces of evil. Patrick Stewart, Emily Watson, Glenn Wrage and Kate Robbins provide some of the voices for this dubbed English language version.

MAN ON FIRE (18): Denzel Washington is brilliant as a burnt-out former CIA assassin who finds bodyguard work in Mexico City, and grows to love young charge, Pina (Dakota Fanning). When the unthinkable happens, he takes brutal, revenge.

BRIDE & PREJUDICE (12A): Durinder Chadha transplants the classic tale of marriages and manners to modern-day India, England and America, punctuating the giddy affairs of the heart with spectacular, colour-drenched dance sequences.

RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE (15): Partially defrosted from cryogenic stasis, the ever-expressionless Milla Jovovich finds a deadly virus unleashed, and her city sealed off. There'll be no escape without fighting a lot of zombies. Masses of action, zero excitement. Rating: of serial killer Jigsaw, one told to kill the other if he wants to see his family again. Excellent.

SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW (PG): Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Giovanni Ribisi defend New York from an invasion of flying robots in a lavish yarn which is both a campy tribute to period adventure yarns, and a showcase for swanky new computer generated effects.

LAYER CAKE (15): Drug dealer Daniel Craig wants out of a very risky trade, and sees his chance in a job tracking down crime boss Michael Gambon's addict daughter. Classy mob drama.

WIMBLEDON (12A): Romcom featuring dithering British tennis star (Paul Bettany) whose game finds fresh zest after he gets together with American bad girl (Kirsten Dunst). Notting Hill with racquets.

GARFIELD: THE MOVIE (U): A celluloid outing for the corpulent cartoon cat, voiced brilliantly by Bill Murray. Reasonable family fare.

CINEWORLD WEDNESDAY SPECIAL:

CODE 46 (15): Tim Robbins is an investigator tracking the forger of faked travel documents. Things get complicated when he falls in love.

CINEWORLD MONDAY CLASSIC: MONA LISA SMILE (12A): Julia Roberts stars as a forward-thinking teacher who starts a job in a posh girls school and teaches her class a little bit about feminism and being their own people.

CINEWORLD MOVIES FOR JUNIORS (SATURDAY, 10AM):

HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (PG): The best and darkest of the franchise so far. Harry has to battle evil Dementors and hide from the sinister Sirius Black, who may be out to kill him.

SPIDERMAN 2 (PG): Tobey Maguire returns as the tortured superhero who has to battle his destiny with his love for Kirsten Dunst. Alfred Molina is his nemesis, Doc Ock.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (PG): Steve Coogan takes up the David Niven role in a colourful remake of the classic tale.
