A STUDENT was rushed to hospital after being attacked by one of a gang of youths who had been following him, said police.
The 21-year-old suffered cuts and bruises when he was punched in the face as he walked along a Bournemouth street on Monday night.
Officers investigating the case said the victim, whose name has not been released, was taking photographs in Winton recreation ground as part of a project when he first became aware of a group of youths.
He left the recreation ground between 9.30pm and 9.45pm but was attacked in Fitzharris Avenue.
"The assault happened as the student was walking close to the junction with Bingham Road," said PC Hatef Nezami of Bournemouth police.
"I am appealing for anyone who saw the assault or the youths in the park to come forward to speak to Dorset Police in confidence or to call the Crimestoppers line anonymously."
The youth believed to be responsible for the assault is described as around 16 years old, of mixed race, 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build. He was wearing a red Arsenal shirt.
The victim, who is believed to be studying locally, was released after treatment at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Anyone who saw what happened or who has other information is asked to call Dorset Police on 01202 222500 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111. Mobile phone tariffs may apply.
