RESIDENTS of Charmouth Road in Lyme Regis have vowed to oppose a renewed application for a telephone mast in a nearby car park, which they say is exactly the same as one that was turned down only a few months ago. The application, from Orange, seeks to remove an existing tower and replace it with a new one and four new base cabinets. The last application Orange made, in July this year, was exact ly the same, but was withdrawn after Lyme Regis Town Council expressed concerns over the height of the tower, which looked to be some 17 metres. But, say Charmouth Road resi dents, the tower in the new appli cation is the same height. Dodie Hills, who spearheaded the campaign against the mast in July said: "They seem to be put ting in the same application. They've just crossed out the dates and put in October. "On the form it says the tower will be 15 metres high, but under neath they appear to be saying it's 17 metres. They think all us old biddies will forget all about it and they will get away with it." Ms Hills said the residents accepted the mast was necessary, but asked again why it couldn't be moved further back, away from view and people's houses. She said: "Why doesn't it go on the favoured west side of the town where nothing ever gets put!" She said residents would be writing to the district council and objecting on the same grounds as previously stated.
