WALKERS, horseriders and cyclists are enjoying safer journeys thanks to a new bridleway.
The path links Fleet and Langton Herring but avoids the busy B3157 by running parallel to the road and crossing through fields.
Dorset County Council's environmental services spokeswoman Hilary Cox officially opened the path at Bagwell Farm Touring Park in Chickerell in front of a group of onlookers.
She said: "We are grateful to the local landowners who have supported the county council in making this new link a reality.
"They have been generous and public spirited in their support. The new route is available for use by all bridleway users.
"It provides a safe link to the existing local rights of way network and helps to promote access to our countryside."
The new route was created after local people appealed for a bridleway and the council's rights of way department secured the support of landowners.
