YOUNG people in Lyme Regis are to be invited to address the town council on issues that they think are important.
Town councillor Daryl Turner said at Wednesday's policy committee meeting that he had recently attended a National Democracy Week workshop with young people from Lyme, who had been enthusiastic about getting involved in town politics.
He said some of the issues that were important to them included:
* Concern for the future of the temporary skateboard park in Lister gardens.
* The creation of a covered area at the park, like that at Beaminster. * Concern over the closure of the club for young people and a lack of input in the decisionmaking process.
* The loss to the club of popular youth worker Justine Davie.
* Enthusiasm for the new InSPARation caf and opportunities for nights for younger groups. Coun Turner said the young people had been so animated that 'it was unbelievable'.
"It's got to be encouraged, it really has," he said, and wanted to offer them the chance to come and talk to the council.
All councillors agreed it would be a good idea to invite a selection of young people to a council meeting and invite them to speak during the public half hour.
Coun Ken Meech, who is the president of the club for young people, said the club had been closed recently because Dorset Youth Association had been unable to find someone to run the club.
Coun Turner said he had also found out where young people in Lyme Regis were able to buy alcohol without being asked for identification.
Coun Turner did not name the place but councillors agreed to discuss it in committee - without press or public present - and take appropriate action.
