IT'S going to be a cold winter for Simon Oldfield who intends to spend three months living on the road and driving around the entire British coastline.

His odyssey begins on January 1 and for 15 or so weeks his only home will be a Landrover and a roof tent pitched on top.

But the spartan existence will allow the Poole man to live his passion -taking photographs of places and scenes that few get to see.

Deserted coastlines and towns, frosty dawn landscapes and snow-covered scenes are some of the treasures he hopes to capture with a digital camera during his self-financed photographic expedition.

The adventure is likely to cost around £20,000 - nearly all of it from Simon's own pocket with some help from sponsorship.

The self-employed design consultant has always had a strong interest in photography.

Simon said: "I've always wanted to travel around the coast and see it all. I've been doing more and more photography and would like to do it professionally, so this will help my career."

He added: "I want to be able to capture the places that most people don't get to see, those frosty mornings and snowy scenes."

For the past eight months Simon, of Broadstone, has been preparing his Landrover for the journey.

It is now kited out with everything he needs to make it a home from home.

By setting off between January and March he aims to capture photographs of places without hordes of holidaymakers or people milling around.

When Simon returns he hopes the photographs can be used on personalised or corporate calendars, be added to commercial stock directories for others to use, and possibly sold in framed sets, such as storm scenes and snow scenes.
