BEAMING Steve Johnson reckons Weymouth can still win the Nationwide South title after capping a 'perfect week' with a maiden win.

The Terras stormed to a convincing 3-0 Nationwide South victory at lowly St Albans City through strikes from Adam Wilde, Paul Buckle and Lee Phillips.

But the head coach revealed he was disappointed his new charges, including debutant striker Kirk Jackson, did not run up a cricket score at Clarence Park.

He told Echosport: "I'm absolutely delighted to win in such emphatic style - it caps the perfect week for me. But I can't help feeling a bit disappointed, that we didn't get five or six.

"I can't praise the players enough because I asked them to play at a high tempo and they did that. They did everything I asked of them and as a manager you can't ask anymore than that.

"We pushed forward, created plenty of chances and were well worth our three goals.

"For us to go away from home, score three and play some excellent stuff at times is all I could ask. Everyone worked hard, including new signing Kirk Jackson, and now hopefully we'll march on to bigger and better things.

"All the goals came at good times and although they had a few chances, that was to be expected because I wanted us to push on and play in an attacking fashion.

Johnson added: "All the boys are buzzing in the dressing room - the players still believe we can win the league and I certainly do because you've got to have self belief.

"I hope the fans will also start to believe we can if we get another couple of results like this.

"This last week has been fantastic for me - it's been a joy to go into work everyday at such a professional club. The reaction of the fans has been great and they gave us brilliant support today which I really appreciate.

Johnson left striker Chukki Eribenne and Lee Charles out of his 16 - but reckons the out-of-favour pair still have a future at the Wessex Stadium.

"I've got 19 players in the squad at the moment and the simple truth is 19 just does not go into 11," he said.

"Someone is always going to left out but that is not to say Chukki and Lee won't be involved next weekend. I know about their ability as footballers but now it is up to them to them to prove they are worthy of a place in the side at Eastbourne on Saturday.

"They will both play for the reserves at home against Plymouth Argyle tomorrow night."

* Ex-Terras boss Steve Claridge starred for Brighton and Hove Albion on his debut as the Seagulls won 1-0 at West Ham United on Saturday.

The 38-year-old has signed a one month deal at the Withdean Stadium outfit.

Albion boss Mark McGee said: "This was a fantastic result for us and Steve played a big part in the win. Guy Butters got the goal but Steve's experience and know how helped us immensly."
