MUDEFORD schoolboy Ben Mundy has landed himself a lead role in this year's pantomime at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

Ben will play John Darling in Peter Pan having won through auditions which attracted more than 70 children aged between seven and 12.

"We, along with the rest of the family, are very proud of Ben," says his mum, Sandra.

"He works very hard at everything he takes on and I'm sure this great opportunity will enthuse him even more."

Starring alongside Ben are illustrious stage names such as Paul Nicholas (Captain Hook), Geoffrey Hughes (Smee) and Big Brother winner Nadia (Mermaid).

Peter Pan is played by Sarah Jane Honeywell with Joanna Forest starring as Wendy.

Ben's mum added: "He is thrilled and very excited to be starring with Paul Nicholas, especially as Mr Nicholas has appeared in Cats, one of Ben's favourite musicals."

The nerve-wracking auditions required the youngsters to introduce themselves on stage and sing a song before being split into smaller groups and asked to read a scene from the panto before the producer and the director made their decision.

Ben was chosen with another boy to share the part of John Darling and will appear in 28 performances over the run, which opens on December 17, so he will have a very exciting Christmas.
