THEY may be dreaming of the World Cup trophy, but school children across Bournemouth will be holding royal cups above their heads.

All children in the borough are being given commemorative Golden Jubilee mugs courtesy of the town's education bosses.

Youngsters at Townsend Primary School got theirs from the newly invested Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr David Baldwin, when he made a guest appearance at their Jubilee party.

The 18,000 keepsake mugs, from the Royal Collection, have been bought for the children by money raised jointly from donations from parents and schools, and sponsorship from a range of local companies and organisations.

The project was organised and co-ordinated by the council's education service.

Cllr Stephen Chappell, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to present this special Golden Jubilee gift to our children, and I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible, and particularly our parents, schools and sponsors."
